Im basically going full frame soon and deciding on a lens that will do landscapes well as well as portraits/walk around.. Does the 24-70 have less distortion than the latter for landscapes? I'm coming from a sigma 10-20 and will miss out on a few mm's but I can live with that.. Orginally I was going 17-40 and a 70-200 but figured I could save money by getting a all in one lens and that 70 on a FF might be to long in some situations

Tell me what you guys think..

I'm also in the same boat (just got myself a 5D2 a month ago) and I'm leaning toward the 24-105. If I stop it down to 5.6 or even 8, there's minimal differences between the two lenses. The 24-70 has less distortion for landscapes, but distortion is something you can fix easily during PP.

I like the idea of having a 24-105 as my main walk around, and then adding a small 35mm or 85mm prime in the bag.

I have 17-40, 24-105, 70-200 for 5D MKII, and 5D.
20D is retired.
The overall most used is the 24-105 5DMKII combo.

I believe 24-70 has less distortion than the 24-105 @ 24mm. But it's not something that lens correction can't fix imo.

Are you sure 24mm is wide enough since you have a Sigma 10-20? The diff is very significant.

When i was in Scotland, i was shooting landscapes mostly with 16-35L and 24-105L, sometimes i just go most with 24-105, another time i prefer 16-35L, depends on the scenes i will shoot, but since that time i tend to use 24-70 more and more for outdoors or landscapes over 24-105 or 16-35, in fact that time in Scotland i couldn't use 24-70 because a filter broken stuck on the lens ring mount.

I use the 24-105 on my Canon 50D and quite like it for landscapes. I utilize it more than the 17-40.

Difficult to tell, but i found that 24-105L is sharper than the three, but ofcourse if i use f8 and above then 24-70 was sharper, i didn't have a test of 24-35 on all three lenses say from f4 up to f11 or even f16, i was using the tripod all the time.

What i can really like is that 24-70 giving me colors better or rendering better very slightly over 24-105, and 16-35 is same as 24-70, and that is why i prefer 24-70 over 24-105.
