It's a sad, sad moment

My beloved 1Ds MkII died about two weeks ago. Her last words were: "err 99".

She had her flaws, but to me she was still perfect. The viewfinder might have been misaligned and I couldn't shoot faster than 1/2000s because of shutter shading parts of the image, but those things just gave her character.

On a more serious note, I also found out that 1Ds MkII is out of Canons service program and no new parts are being manufactured. What makes this even more hard to swallow is that the shutter assembly & mirror box were basically brand new, because I had them changed a few years back. Only under 25k actuations on the shutter and one blade is bent out of shape.

I bet there are still a lot of people subscribed to this thread, so I'd also like to ask for your guidance. Where have you gone from this magnificent camera? Meaning, what do you shoot with nowadays?

Best regards,

Janne

Loving the photos from this thread. Planning on picking up a 1Ds either mark i or ii. Is the mark ii worth the extra price? I've seen a lot of mark i go for less than $400 which is great because I'm a broke college student, and the mark ii seems to go for around $600. Not sure if 5 extra megapixels is worth $200 especially considering I almost never print.

The MKII is better in many ways, basically 99% of way. Is it worth $600? That's up to you, seeing as you can get a 5D MKII for $800 these days, that's a lot to consider.

For me, the MKII's increase in ISO is what matters the most, along with how it behaves with different lighting accessories (if you care about non-Canon TTL flashes, etc). Depends on what else you use with the camera.

I agree, $600 is way too much for the MKII, but that seems to be the going cost roughly. The MKI at $400 is also over-costed, since a 5D classic is less than that and does everything better (except AF).

Very best,

Just joined the forum, and this is my first post!
Love this camera and lens combo. I got the camera in the bargain corner at my local Calumet in January this year at an unbelievable price. It would have been rude not to buy it really!

This is a view over to the isle of Arran, on the west coast of Scotland. Taken in February this year.
Hope you like it,
Garry

Oh my, i can't remember when was my last shoot with this body, could be in 2010 or 2011 not sure really, and the camera is in one of my forgotten bags, not sure it is collecting dust inside that bag, but the box is available and very soon i will put my gear to sale including this camera but locally, and i am planning to sell it with another body together as a must, i won't sell it individually, but maybe for the first time i may try with overseas sale and see if it will get any attention, but the price will be high as i will sell it with another body and that one is also very expensive as used.

Depends on condition and shutter count. Many on here will say "jump at it" I'm sure. I got mine for £100(about 125 USD), and that is what I call a bargain!
