Hey guys, I've just purchased a 1Ds Mark 2; I'm super excited about it because I've wanted this camera for a very long time. I see you guys were talking about the EOS utility. I have windows 7 on my computer. Will I be able to download my pics from the camera with it or will it not be compatible?
The files themselves can be read by whatever software you are using so there are no concerns on that front.
When it comes to getting the images from the camera to the computer, dedicated card readers are so much faster than connecting directly to the camera that I have no idea whether you can download directly from the camera or not. Honestly, the USB ports on my 7D and other cameras could all be broken and I wouldn't know because I haven't connected them in so long. Decent card readers are cheaper than the cards that go in them so there's no reason not to have one.
With a dedicated card reader to pull images off the cards, EOS Utility is only needed for changing the personal functions and I've never needed to change them since when first bought the camera and entered my name for the copyright info.
