when I go "Save As", and select the JPEG in the "Format section, it adds ".eps" not the .jpg format.

The only way to get the .jpg option is to select the "multi-picture format", from the format list, which then brings up the ".jpg".

I don't have CS6, but what is the image originally -- and is it in 8 bit or 16 bit?

So, scroll up and down the file formats -- what do you see?

The attached print screen from my CS6 is the order for which my file types show up. This is for an 8 bit save. If you are having to select the multi-Picture format to get it to give you JPG then it would seem to be off in reading the order of the file formats. If you have tried all the standard things like restarting Photoshop and rebooting your system I would then lean towards re-installing the program. Something is out of order on your system and this might fix it. I would also check for updates before you try this. This can be found under the help menu.

All the formats are there as per the others post's screen dump, but when i click on the jpeg, it put the .eps in the save select.

I done the re-starts and checked for updates.

How many times has this happened? Do you have a mouse that has a scroll wheel in the middle?

Do you have your preferences set up to point your cs6 install to a previous (say cs5) plug-ins folder in the "Additional Plug-ins Folder" preference? If you point cs6 to the cs5 plug ins folder (to use third party plugins without having to reinstall them) then you are also telling cs6 to use cs5 plugins for saving files, etc. this is confusing CS6. If you want to access already installed third party plugins from another folder, move them out of the previous cs plug in folder, into a separate folder outside the photoshop folder structure. Then point cs6 to this folder and see if that works.

When I was using the beta cs6 I didn't particularly care about this issue, so I left cs6 pointing to cs5 plugins.

That is an interesting read. I can't see where the OP has done this but maybe he has. For the OP is this the free download beta version of CS6 or one you have already bought and received. As far as I can find via internet searches this is unique to you so it has to be something locally but at this I would suggest that you should post the question on the Adobe Photoshop Forum (external link). They have participation from far more Adobe people than we would see here.

Be onto Adobe ALL day:

"In Photoshop CS6, we've change the way plug-in are loaded. CS6 plug-ins are now separated from third party plug-ins, and CS6 plug-ins are installed into the Adobe Photoshop CS6/Required/Plug-ins folder. Third party plug-ins are supposed to go into the Adobe Photoshop CS6/Plug-ins folder.

Your required CS6 plug-ins are all fine. but the Adobe Photoshop CS6/Plug-ins folder contains your Photoshop CS5 plug-ins. Please see the red text below. If you compare these plug-ins to the required plug-ins, you'll see that version 12.0 (Photoshop CS5) of all of these plug-ins are listed as optional and third party plug-ins, meaning that they're in the Adobe Photoshop CS6/Plug-ins folder. These plug-ins are the duplicates and are causing the issue.

If you'd like more information on plug-ins in Photoshop CS6, please refer to this TechNote: Downloadable Content (Plug-ins) in Photoshop CS6, located here:
http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/plug-ins-photoshop-cs61.html"

I will give it try later.
