Anyone seen or can provide a link to an LCD protector the 5D Mark III. A good quality one. Really liked the Giottos Shott glass ones in the past but those have become really hard to find for other models and I don't think there is one for this model yet. Let us know.

I always had a cover of what I used for my PDA's (had leftovers), but after I got my 5D2, I stopped using them. They don't need it. The covers are replaceable.

Don't the cameras come with an LCD protector already on them? Why do we need another?

This question has been asked several times in the past six years that I'm aware of.

A Canon DSLR does not need another protective cover.

It already has one. Anything added merely protects the protective cover that's already there. (birth control pills AND a condom?).

When I first saw this topic six years ago, a replacement plastic LCD cover was costing in the neighourhood of ten dollars (likely a bit more now). They are stuck on with self-adhesive, can be pried off (gently) and the new one stuck back on.

Finally, let me say this: it's usually Nikoners that use them. You wanna look like them?

Glenn

EDIT: Just saw Hogloff's post - he's right of course.

Replacement takes five minutes if it's badly scractched or broken. Here's the tutorial:https://photography-on-the.net …Protector+Repair+Tutorial

My ggs glass protector was 8 bucks and never scratched in the 3 years I had my camera. Cheaper than the canon screen replacement and much less work. And it didn't reduce clarity like some of those "expensive" plastic screens.

5D3 LCD screen is different from 5D2 and not user replaceable, there is some special optical elastic element between protective cover and LCD http://www.the-digital-picture.com …I-DSLR-Camera-Review.aspx (external link),
it also uses tempered glass which is quite hard to scratch so in general screen protector is as useless as on 5D2 but for different reason.

Hey, I didn't know that. Wonder why they did that?

Clear view LCD II technology, to eliminate air gap causing extra reflection.

Hey, I didn't know that. Wonder why they did that?

The LCD screen on my 30D is much easier to clean than the one on my 5DII.

It seems to me that they changed the type of plastic with the newer 5DII as nose smudges are harder to remove on the 5. I much prefer the older surface on the 30D.

A change to glass seems to be a move forward.

Thanks for the information Andrew - we're all smarter now.

Glenn
