Best option under $300

My father in law is looking for a camera. I'm an SLR guy and have really never paid any attention to point and shoot type cameras. I've been looking through them and am really having a hard time picking out something that may be best. Most of the ones I like are over $300 lol. Which couple are considered the best cameras for under $300?

The best camera I can think of, in terms of image quality, low light support and white balance,
as well as 'cool' features such as a sweep panorama mode and face detection auto focus,
is the Nikon Coolpix P310, with its meager x4 zoom but large f/1.8 max aperture setting,
currently being sold for just under $300, which is, in my opinion, a very worthy deal.

If it's not low light support he's after, but a large zoom - then the Panasonic ZS20 is
definitely worth a look, as well as the new SX260, if you're looking for a Canon.

Do not forget the Canon SX150, 12X zoom, 14MP's, great quality stills and videos with stereo sound, $179.00 dlrs or less and what is great, it uses AA batteries. rechargables recommended but alkalines will keep you going if you are on atrip with no time to recharge!

I'd have to say the best bang for the buck camera at that price point would be the Olympus Epm1 with kit lens. $299 refurbished from Cameta Camera with one year warranty.

I just ordered this camera yesterday for the very reason you indicate...AA batteries. I got it in QVC for $139.99 with a 4g SD card.

Will be on a long trip in a couple of weeks and often will be no where near outlets to recharge a battery.

The camera has a lot of very good review on Amazon etc.

Sx10is? 20x zoom, 10MP, tilt-able display, video, takes AA, full manual control. Too big to fit in a pocket but I have one im trying to get rid of if you want.

300HS Canon.....under $150 USD. If you're in this catagory ..go real cheap. IQ will most likely be satisfactory

i just got a Canon 310HS and think it's the greatest little P/S camera I've ever had and I've tried a ton of them. Just returned at 520HS, piece of trash in my opinion.

Ixus 125 HS all the way!
