Sold my 5d2 and chubbed up for be rest to get the mkiii. I'm just a hobbyist. Got the camera partly due to me being a gear head (sort of) and because I think its worth having this camera to preserve memories. Is this camera really that good? Check
Out the 5d3 thread. I can say that I will not be buying a body for a very long time.

I'm in the same boat. Really contemplating selling my 5D2, 24-105, 85 and 70-200, plus a few bucks, to get a 5D3 and 50L. Do I need it? Not at all. But my kids are 3, almost 2, and coming in December. I want to save those memories to the best of my abilities, within my means. Still on the fence on this one, and the wife will fight it. Honestly, I'd like to keep the 85 and the 24-105, which is keeping me from pulling the trigger right now. Maybe if I just add the 5D3 and save for the 50L...

I just love the nature of this hobby. It's (for me) centered around my family. I can turn around and sell anything in my bag for at least 80% of what I paid for it. I've NEVER had another hobby like that!

Sell the 5D2 and 7D and the 24-105. Then decided if you want the 70-200 still. Besides, the 5D3 is very similar to the 7D except it's FF and has awesome high ISO abilities on top of the fantastic AF system.

Well I have the blessing (and curse) that the wife feigns interest in photography. It's 2 pronged. She says she needs to do more creative things, and actually does have a good eye for photography. She also HATES when I sell used gear. Despite the fact I'm getting 80-90% of what I paid, she thinks of it as throwing money away. So she keeps saying she wants me to have 2 cameras so she can play with one. And she is the reason I keep the zooms. I don't ever use them except when i travel. I'd rather sell them both and get a 28-135 for travel (which is still on my list of possibilities.)

I just got her an S100 for mother's day yesterday, hoping that would get her to let go of any say in my DSLR gear. My dream setup would be 5D3 with 35L, 50L, 85L and 135L. And honestly, if I was able to sell the other stuff, I'm not that far from affording it!

The other thing this makes me think is to wait and see what the T4i offers. Or even the T3i. By selling my 7D and getting a T3i for her to play with, I could net another $600 or so for "my" gear.

I try to stay away from MKIII. I know for sure, completely convinced that investing these miney into travelling will give me much better results than just changing MKII for MKIII. temptation is strong, but I hope I will behave wisely.

If MKII would be 20-30% of my monthly salary, I would go for it...but it is 80%

I'm a hobbyist who plan to purchase the 5D3 soon. Although I don't make any money off my photos, I the high ISO/fast AF is worth the extra cost to upgrade. I plan to sell my 5D2 and 35L to help buffer the cost though.

+1. I'm the same way! I think after i buy a 35L next month, i'll start finally diving money into another car and mod it up. Now that's a much more expensive hobby..

Same here man. My G37 hasn't seen any mods for a long time. Glad I got the camera stuff out of the way. Time for test pipes and exhaust. :)

My last purchase camera wise will be probably the 24-70 mkii whenever that comes out. Hopefully it will be out before my house is finished because then I won't have mod money for a long time. Lol

Ah okay. My gf is quite the same. But her idea was sell all the crap that you don't use and save up and buy the ones that you will use. She finds that spending money only for things that are "best/bang for your buck" will only cause me to lose more money in the end because of selling them used and then buying the other stuff i've been lusting towards.

I did buy her a Fuji X100 and after a month, she hated it due to the super slow AF system. So we sold that.

Good luck! hope to see you soon in the 5D3 thread :).

Dont sell the 35 L. Shooting at 1.4 and the 5D3's amazing outer af points at low light to avoid focus recompose is about the sweetest thing this combo can ever have. I'm sure other 5D3 owners can say the same.

OP, sell the 5D2 now before the used price resale value drops even more. I was lucky enough to get $1900 out of mine but then again it was in mint condition with low shutter actuations. If you love your 5D2, you will love the mkiii even more.

Many people spend much more than they probably should on their hobbies, I don't see this being any different. What others make or how much they are willing to spend on their business or hobby really isn't any of my business UNTIL I want to sell some equipment to them. Then I care.... :)

There are much more horribler ways to spend hard-earned money than on photography. Just ask the Secret Service organization.

I would not say the 5diii is over or under priced....rather, it is just priced. over and under are prepositions and prepositions have much more to do with your current position relative to another object rather than the appropriateness of said object's position. who's to say it isn't your position that is inappropriate?

I'm a six figure hobbyist. I can not afford to go pro even if I wanted to. Also, I fear going pro would ruin the joy I get out of photography. I really didn't have the cost of this camera budgeted, but as the moon and stars align the last of my inheritance was released to me just as this camera was close to being released. It was destiny really.

For what I shoot and how I shoot I could have done just fine with the 7D really, except for being stupidly addicted to full-frame.

Love the camera so far. I'm trying to teach myself into it though.

I'm a gear head. I'm trying to take deep breaths and tell myself to be thankful for what I have already. The 5D3 won't work magic. The 5D2 is great!

But I REALLY want the 5D3 and 50L!!!
