thanks, i added some contrast and sharpening in DPP as i don't have lightroom4 yet. its made up of 3 images, to make an in camera HDR you have 4 options for EC (Auto, 1, 2 and 3) and i had it set to Auto.

Couldn't that shot have been captured with one exposure?

I like both of the HDRs. I think on the 2nd one, I would try pulling a little blue out of the shadows in the buildings on the left.

That's always the holy grail of natural HDR - when someone says it doesn't look like you needed HDR.

Usually this is because the result has a lot of dark areas in it and significant 'macro' (large-scale) contrast rather than looking overall flat with only local contrast. From the other examples of the 5DIII HDR, it looks like it doesn't try to flatten out all the contrast, which is nice.

Question: at the lower right in the water, there is a reflection that is brilliant blue. I do not see the related object above the waterline the reflection is coming from. Did the camera create that as some sort of artifact? Is that blue streak in a single normal image that has not been HDR'ed? Just curious.

Always? The holy grail? Well maybe for you but I'd be careful about such sweeping generalisations.... I like natural HDR but then I ( and an awful lot of other people) like the way over the top surreal and dreamlike images that HDR can also create.
