A few bugs from the archives

Did actually find a fly today but have enough shots of those recently
Here's a few from the archives.

Icheumon wasp lookingfor it's victim

lucky you - i've never managed to find an Ichneumon that would settle for more than a millisecond.Good shot of the Soldier - they are tough subjects to capture detail on.

The icheumon was so busy trying to locate it's prey on the apple, it didn't notice me at all.
Agree with the soldier fly- they can look a completely different colour depending on the light direction.
Neat wasp shot of yours- was it actually chasing the leaf hopper?

That wasp spent about 5 minutes looking around and smelling the top of the apple with it's antennae before it turned round and starting laying eggs. I assume they prey on the apple maggots.

Great shots Brian (but you missed the eyes in the 1st and chopped the antennae in the 2nd )

Haven't seen a soldier fly before - you don't happen to have any dorsal view shots by any chance?

great shots, as always . The wasp shots are fantastic.

Not quite a dorsal view but nearly- I actually thought originally that it was a hoverfly- depending on the light direction they seem either greeny/blue or gold.

Thanks Ahmad- no none of the shots are natural light- they are all from when I used to have the flash mounted low to the left of the camera.

That soldierfly is one of those bugs that looks better in real life - seems very hard to capture the colours correctly.
