So, I'd like to point out this is almost a year after this thread started and still no 64bit driver. Pretty disapointing.

Now normally, I use my card reader, tonight, it broke. So here I am, midnight, have work to do and I can't get the pictures off my camera.

The REALLY disapointing this about this, is that the driver probably does a simple OS version check, xp64 or whatever the version shows up as is not on the list so the driver fails to install. It's not like a team of software developers has to reinvent the wheel to make this happen.

So, canons official response to a lack of drivers for a year and a half old OS is:

---------------
Thank you for your inquiry on 64-bit drivers for your EOS 20D. We value you as a Canon customer and appreciate the opportunity to assist you.

Canon currently does not offer support for Windows XP x64. No drivers or software have been released for Windows XP x64. We regret any inconvenience this may cause.

Support will likely become available after the release of the next Windows operating system (Windows VISTA).
---------------
This is very sad. Who even knows when vista will be coming out, it's been delayed for almost a year now. When it comes out, will I have a 64bit driver that will work with XP64, seems unlikely. I would understand if this was a lower end product line like a sound card or network card, but this is really analougous to an enterprise soultion in the computer world. If you had thousands of dollars invested in a network card for your computer, you'd get much better support than this. This is a real let down by canon.

Does anyone know if photoshop can use the x64 to its advantage?

Yes, the memory improvements alone are helpfull to photoshop... but as mentioned thus far PS is not taking full advantage of 64 bit.

Odd considering that MAC is also semi 64 bit.

As for the lack of 64 bit drivers, this is hardly a "Canon" issue alone, MS itself continues to play down ther current 64bit OS and treat it with lackluster enthusiasm as MS deosn't want anyone to buy it. They want you all to wait for Vista.
The lack of drivers is all anyone talks about re: XP64 so it comes as no surprise.

Anyone running only a single machine with XP64 would do well to consider a dual boot with an install of XP 32 bit as well.

Anyway, for a thing like the 20D, where you would want to attach it to a PC once to set some functions, it's hardly an issue.
Printer drivers!.. now there is an issue!

I have been running XP64 for quite a while, yes drivers have been a huge issue. I had no fear on what I was getting in to, with a degree in computer engineering I figured I'd write my own drivers and I did for most of my equipment. Over a year later and still no issues with any of the hardware I have.

I hadn't thought about giving them out, but I can do that. Let me do some clean up on a few things and create some installers for things. They were a quick and dirty project, so the coding isn't pretty but it works. Then I will host them on my website and let you all know when the are ready for downloading.

Looking forward to the drivers Lax_lacks...I have been runnning XP64 for a few months, and dual boot to the 32 bit version of XP for things like 20D connection. (Only when I am using the laptop for direct connect photography - otherwise I use a card reader in XP64...thanks in advance for your time on this.

That's awesome Jaymz! (especially given that my XP64 box is on route as I type  )

I don't want to buy Vista. So far, Vista looks like a big waste of money (too much money) for not doing much besides slowing down your computer. I've been using XP64 for more than a year now. If Microsoft wants to push me to upgrade, they're pushing me to Linux.

Using a card reader doesn't help the EOS Utility work.

Comon Canon, it's been too long, you have no excuse not to have XP64 drivers done after such a long time.

Canon: either give me drivers or give me a refund for the Rebel XT I just got.

I've recently upgraded (I think I have anyway :-) to XP64 - but whilst my old canon scanner works with Vista 64bit drivers, non exist for the 5D - the latest XP drivers load but are only 32bit - and when you actually plug the camera in, it says they aren't compatible.

Worse thing is, the card reader I have doesn't have drivers either - so it looks like its back to the laptop to pull the files off!

Old thread back from the dead.

64 bit drivers remains a big problem.
My current PC runs both XP 64 and XP Pro in 32 bit for this very reason.
No 64 bit printer drivers are available for my printer, even though it was released After Vista...

Your Card reader should not need drivers though, ?
all my USB Card readers work fine in XP 64 with no driver installed...

Anyway, if you still have an old XP Installation disk, setting up a dual boot is actually pretty easy. (though having to reboot to print is still a pain :( )

I have an internal card reader - which is playing dead- although the USB port on the front works.

I've just tried my external card reader and that works fine with the built-in drivers.

My printer works fine on XP64 - HP5150 so is not particularly new. And as I say, the scanner works.

So it looks like its the card reader route - which is a pain - although quicker to be fair.
