It's Independence Day in Finland!

On 6th of December, 1917 Finland got it's indepence from Russia. Today we celebrate our 88th Independence Day. The traditions include e.g. University Students' Torch Parade, which passes the the Presidential Palace and ends at the Senate Square next to the Helsinki Cathedral.

Its nice to see other people`s traditions,and be informed,very educational Olli.
Just a few nights ago i was watching a program about the USSR attach on your country,just before the WW2 , really good stuff,very interesting.

Heippa Ollie Horray for the Finns on their day of celebration .Northeast Ohio has several large communities of Finns who came to the shores of Lake Erie to work in shipping and steel. We like our Finnish neighbors

I remember well my late 1980's visit to Hancock, MI, located next to Lake Superior. I was surprised about the very strong Finnish community there, even some of the street signs were both in English and Finnish, and shopkeepers (not the young ones) were still speaking Finnish. You can find there e.g. Finnish Americal Heritage Center. Nice memories.
