More baseball (I shot in Manual!)

Ok, so I tried shooting in manual for the first time. It was overcast, and I shot in M, 1/1600. 1600iso, AI servo, AWB...........When used 800 iso, they were coming out too dark. And my camera only goes up to 1600 iso. When I shot in 1/1200, they weren't as in focus. Anything I could have done differently, to get them more crisp??

very well done. there keepers!! i firmly believe that by playing with some settings during games can enhance your skills to a higher level. by the way, does ur canon 70-200 have is? ive been thinking in buying the new 70-200 sigma 2.8 for 1400buks

Good action shots. Really the only way to shoot a lower ISO is to shoot earlier. What time do the games start? At that age you should get sharp pics of the fielders at 1/1200. The ball might be blurred but the players will be sharp.

Have you considered a 40d, 50d or 7d? The 1/3 stops of ISO come in handy when shooting baseball..not to mention the fps and autofocus.

You don't need to have that fast of a shutter, I don't know when I would ever go up that high! When I shoot sports, I will keep my ISO at 400, my shutter is never faster then 1/400, and my aperture is around f9.0 give or take. Your high ISO give off a lot of image noise. Great captures though, you definitely have the composition down. You just need to play with manual some more to figure out your shutter and everything.
In closing, your shutter was just to fast, which made the images dark, which made you want to turn up your ISO, which gave you image noise, which is probably why they look a tad OOF.

At this age they dont throw fast enough to need 1/1200, you can go lower. Probably 800, maybe even 640

1/400 could be a bit slow depending. I would try to get the ISO down a bit or get a camera to better handle 1600 but overall very nice shots. I shot my first tball game this past weekend and it was fun.

It's fast enough to stop the players, but gives the ball some motion blur to it.

Nice. Actually, some like the blur to impart action - it's a matter of taste. Get a faster lens if you want those frozen action shots. Nice job though.

Nice shots. As others have said, there is really no reason to set the shutter speed that high. Some actually look a little overexposed as some whites are blown out. Drop your speed and lower the ISO and they will look much better. You did capture the right moments though. Keep practicing and they will get better and better.

Forgot to mention that. In the end this is really what is most important.

My thoughts exactly. Why would you want to use an aperture of F9? The idea in most cases is to not have the background in focus. The the OP, great stuff, I think they look great and I wouldn't change a thing.

I shoot a lot of karate, and it is hard to focus on them moving so fast.

F9 helps that? You should go F32 and strobe the arenas, that way you don't even have to focus.
