I am looking for transceiver/receivers to trigger two studio-type lights and a single 430ex II flash. As I am on a tight budget right now I am looking at the Yongnuo Rf-603's. The question I have is how many sets will I need to use all these at once? It is my understanding that the 603's are both a receiver/transceiver in one so that would mean I would only need two sets correct? One unit for the camera, one unit for the flash and two units for the studio lights?

I've been thinking about something like this for myself as well but I am in the same boat as you and not fully knowing what to do either so I hope someone with more understanding can reply to this thread.

Well I just dropped the cash on the 2 sets of Rf-603's and necessary cables. This is the first time I've ever used Paypal and ebay and I must say I am not a fan.

yup just one 603 for each light. Cables to the strobes and 430 on the hot shoe.

:D.... you haven't even had time for something to go wrong yet!

If you're in the US or UK its often best to buy these things from Amazon as they have a great return policy. The RF-602/3 are usually pretty safe (unlike their flash units) but when things go wrong it can take weeks or months to sort it out through ebay.

I wrote a bit of guide to the popular triggers here if its any help -

Well, I have gotten errors and the like saying my payment cannot be processed, my cart can't be accessed at this time and that my password does not work. It literally took me an hour of googling ebay error numbers last night just to figure out how to pay. Then I finally figure it out and paypal tells me my password doesn't work. I hear so many stories of how good they are but my first impression is that it sucks.

Once you get both of them figured out, it will be like walking :) I have used both eBay and PayPal for a number of years now and have had MINIMAL problems with either of them... particularly when you are the buyer.

The only issue I have come across was when a buyer initiated a dispute (it was something minimal and was easily resolved). During these cases PayPal pulls the amount of the transaction out of your PayPal account, even if it means giving you a negative PayPal balance. Once that happens you can't use your PayPal account unless you deposit that amount back into your account... which really means you are out the item you likely sold and the money, until the dispute is solved. In my case, I was selling new items which I was purchasing, not just stuff I had laying around... which meant that I had already paid my vendor for said item(s) and would have had to pay again to PayPal to use my account until the issue was resolved... meaning extra out of pocket expenses to continue business using PayPal.... what a headache!

Sorry to hear about the issues you had as I have had no issues over the last 5 years of paypal/eBaying so it seems like you've had every possible thing go wrong in one transaction which really sucks so hopefully that means all your future experiences will be a dream! Anyway looking forward to hearing your report on the 603's once they arrive.
