this is explained in my original post. i don't charge money or photograph for other people; i do this to practice and explore and have fun. i do not proactively hand the cards to strangers, i give them to explain and represent myself and my actions when questioned.

I still don't get how "smaller = non-pro". Our business cards at work are about half the size of normal cards, but it's no reflection on our work or the way we approach things.

cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)

I agree. Just look at how many other photographers in this thread put a camera, lens, or lens aperture (like you did) on their card. The thing is that very few people know what a lens aperture is anymore since most cameras now are so small you can't see the aperture blades. (and some new P&S digicams come without any aperture blades!). Put something on the card that better identifies with you or what you can produce than part of your equipment.

I see your reasoning, but I would be worried they'd be more likely to lose it as it would be an odd and smaller size and thus easier to overlook.

Nicolas, many here will give you grief about the use of aperture blades... but i think it's fine.

yes, we've seen it... over and over and over and over and over...

but then again, this is a forum of photographers, pro or hobbyists... and hence we will see a over-saturation of an idea...

but if you think about the average individual who receives business cards... how many photographers business cards would one receive in a lifetime?

i think it's fine... love the color usage, very easy to notice and memorable... already, while typing this message, the image of your card has passes the text box but i still remember it vividly.

love your font on your name.

Thank you VERY much for your feedback. At least something good in the middle of such sadness of being eliminated from the FIFA World Cup...

I'll make sure my designer knows your opinions, thanks again!

You can ask, definitely... but I can't answer you :p

Now, seriously, I don't know which font it is. I have to ask my designer!

Yep, as photographers we live in our bubbles and obsess WAY too much over stuff others never even notice.

You have to wonder how Shell sells petrol - after all, their symbol is a shell!

:-)

always wondered about that actually...wtf does a shell have to do with anything??

So the black logo on the right won't be black, it will be transparent gloss on the red matte

is that their design or your design?

Wikipedia:

The name Shell is linked to the Shell Transport and Trading Company. In 1833, the founder's father, also Marcus Samuel, founded an import business to sell seashells to London collectors. When collecting seashell specimens in the Caspian Sea area in 1892, the younger Samuel realized there was potential in exporting lamp oil from the region and commissioned the world's first purpose-built oil tanker, the Murex (Latin for a type of snail shell), to enter this market; by 1907 the company had a fleet. Although for several decades the company had a refinery at Shell Haven on the Thames, there is no evidence of this having provided the name.

The Shell brand is one of the most familiar commercial symbols in the world. Known as the "pecten" after the sea shell Pecten maximus (the giant scallop), on which its design is based, the current version of the brand was designed by Raymond Loewy and introduced in 1971. The yellow and red colours used are thought to relate to the colours of the flag of Spain as Shell built early service stations in the state of California which had strong connections with Spain.

You showcased you kit lens?

I think the card looks great and I agree that the only people that would realize it would be other photographers.

I would try putting the text at least your name in the lower left site in the gap. The image has a lot of textures, edges and lines that I like but they tend to make the text harder to read.

Love the old school photos !
