Just today got my Refurbed Canon 7D. Charged battery, still at factory defaults.

When I put my Sigma 150-500 lens on auto-focus works fine in full auto mode. When I switch to M mode auto-focus does not work. In one shot or AL Servo Same for any other mode I try AV. Only in full auto does it work. Switched lens, same thing. Was reading old post about focus issue. Checked CFIII -4 and it is set properly. Possible defective camera?? Suggestions

Have you checked both back buttons, or in the custom functions to see where the AF is assigned? This sounds like it is set to Back Button Focus, as it will revert to shutter button focus in full auto, but be BBF in all other shooting modes.

Not sure i understand, can you clarify where to look to see where AF assigned?

Not on the 7D, no, it is a different model to mine. However I would assume that the CF Rick Reno has mentioned is the one you want to check it. Or just try the * button as masterchief suggests. BBF can be assigned to that as well as the AF-ON button on most (if not all) bodies.

Got it to work. Reset CF to factory defaults. Seems to work ok now. Will fire some test shoots tomorrow after work. Thanks for all the help. You all are awesome.

sounds like the AF-ON and * buttons were switched...very common thing..though I do not know why as I hate using the * button for AF. I always forget that the zoom out function of that button does not work when reviewing images. lol
just keep AF-ON as the AF start/lock/stop function...unless you like the shutter button doing both exposure and AF.. to each their own..

Glad you got it working! :)

good luck!
