Hey folks,
I currently have four 3-leg-trippods and a GorillaPod. i want to sell them alland get a new one, which is more compact and lighter. It should fit in a common fotokamerabag.

My equipment:
-Canon EOS 1000d
-sigma 18-250mm TravelZoom (external link)

I heard, that these Manfrotto Trippods are so good. So I did a little research and found this (external link).

Which can you recomment me?

Thanks winam!

You do know light and compact tripods are useless? Heavy and awkward comes with being effective I'm afraid.

Have you read the reviews on that page? Really, you'd be better off just burning the money. That way you won't break your camera when the tripod collapses.

Have a look at the Benro's which can be ordered direct from China/Hong Kong for quite a bit less than in the US.

I have also seen this tripod which seems to fit your specified features but it isnt very tall.

A. Adams said the best tripod is a ton of granite with a screw in it.
Hard to move and walk with.
I went another way when hiking 6 days in Zion and Bryce and you might consider ...
Primos Trigger Stick - Tall Monopod ... http://www.amazon.com …57&ref=pd_sl_655snt7nsg_e (external link)
Used as a monopod and walking stick w camera not mounted.
Instead of the screw I used the V yolk to rest the lens horz or verticle.
Worked well as pod and stick.

Weightless?

Probably not available on this planet.

You seem to be the perfect poster child of why you should buy good gear from the start, instead of buying inferior, cheaper tripods first.

All of the money, time and frustration with lesser tripods could have been avoided if you bought a decent but expensive tripod from the get go.

This should be an example of what not to do, for all of those out there starting in a similar predicament. If you're going to need a tripod, treat that need like you would in buying a lens. Buy the best you can be done with it.

Have you looked at the Gitzo Basalt options?

Agree with above. Look also at Feisol esp the 3441. Also, the rock with a screw idea can be had with a bean bag (external link)on the rock. It's the most solid shooting surface there is, on a rock, a car hood, a fence post. Use it until you decide to spend a reasonable amt on a decent set of sticks.

The Manfrotto 732CY series is probably as light and compact as you can go w/o sacrificing your gear.

There is another thread here discussing light weight tripods.
https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1186078

One mentioned that I was not familiar with was this small Berlebach mini-tripod. Put it on a rock or something to get more height:

I was looking for the same thing after hanging my existing Slick tripod onto my camera back pack. I think this Benro MePhoto is relatively new and fits the bill at $135 US.

It is a bit short for me 6'1" but less wieght will be better on my back than excessive weight.

My "carry around" tripod is a Benro Travel Angel, which folds down to practically nothing and is very light. Highly recommended. Having said that, I also own a big, (comparatively) heavy Gitzo and a gimbal for use with longer lenses, so Todd's point is well taken. Buy right and you only have to buy once.
