Hi All,

I'm considering selling my Canon 70-200mm F/4 L and buying this lens instead. I shoot with a 7D (crop sensor) and the 70-200mm is often too tight for me to use for portraits, and too slow for me to use indoors.

I've got a couple of wedding shoots to do this year as favours for friends, and think that the 50-150mm range with Optical Stabalisation would be more beneficial for me and my requirements.

Does anyone here own, or are looking to buy this lens? I've only seen one 'review' so far on FroKnows, and the lens doesn't yet seem to be widely available in the UK.

The length, weight and the bokeh of the Sigma are my main reservations about swapping the Canon.

I have the lens and I think it is very nice. Here are some pictures from it I posted. https://photography-on-the.net …read.php?t=1169567&page=4

If I was still shooting crop (or if this worked on full frame) I'd be quite interested in it. For me it's between the sigma 70-200 OS or the Tokina 70-200 f/4 OS (if it ever gets released)

I'm not looking to upgrade to Full Frame in the future (I can't justify the expense for what I would use it for) which is why I'm looking at APS-C lenses.

I may keep the 70-200 F4 as the bokeh is amazing but I don't use the lens very often and think I'd use the 50-150 a lot more. It will give me the complete 17-200 range.

Thanks for the link to the pictures BuddyWoods :)

New version does not look like the old one; except, both are black.

Someone on dpreview.com forums did a detailed comparison of the Sigma 50-150mm OS MTF charts with other lenses - primarily other Sigma lenses (because other manufacturers probably compute MTF quite differently):

http://forums.dpreview.com …rum=1043&message=41513423 (external link)

The conclusions were: about the same quality as Sigma 17-50mm OS at 50mm (which is good), better than Sigma 70-200mm at 70mm, and almost as good at 150mm as the prime Sigma 150mm macro. Pretty good overall.

Thanks for your contributions everyone - the lens does seem to perform well. The size makes it look huge, and heavy, but if it compares similarly to the Canon 70-200 2.8 IS and is 1/4 of the price, then perhaps it has to be that long and weigh that much.

Having the zoom on the end of the lens will perhaps help naturally support the weight in your hands.

Bought the lens this week and very impressed with my first outing which was in a low lit room (used flash off the ceiling). Link below:

Thanks SuperReds, those sample shots look nice and sharp - the size and weight is an issue but I think if I want that range and that quality, then I will have to buy that lens!

So if I'm looking at that right (which more then likely I'm not cause mtf charts confuse the hell out of me) the 50-150 is a little better at f2.8 then the sigma 70-200 OS. That right?
