This week, for the first time, I put Lightroom 4 RC2 to some moderately serious use. Testing it on individual images, I had no problems--the sliders usually worked fast, the new tonal controls are great, and soft proofing alone made it worth the price. However, over the last two days, I used it to edit a series of images, maybe 10 or 12 in one sitting, and it bogged down both times. The problems often started when cropping. The software would hang for a while. Sometimes it went back to normal, but twice it wouldn't, e.g., it would crop an image, and then shortly afterwards, the image would go blank, or the cursor would not return to normal. All typical signs of memory not being cleared. Exiting and restarting the program returned it to normal.

The machine is not a very powerful one: win 32, and therefore limited to 4GB.

Anyone else having this problem and know of a workaround?

Reports on the various Adobe forums and others have been mixed; slowdowns on older machines and also some complaints from guys with uber-computers. Others have no problems. But there is enough talk that I'll bet it's causing the Adobe gnomes to keep their butts to the grindstone until it's better.

I hear mixed evals - some hate the bugs big time.
Please confirm they fixed the color balance shift problem ...
If you compare LR 3 or previous to PS CSx CRx they is a shift in colors.
If you compare LR4 to LR3 there is a shift and is LR4 the same as CSx CRx ???

Mine bogs down on an otherwise super fast machine. It also has a tendency in develop mode to hang on the same image, despite what thumbnail is selected. If it wasnt for the shiny new sliders, i'd go back to 3

Still there. Last week, I selected an image I had processed in LR3 to use to test different papers and to see how close I could get with the new softproofing (which is great). Upgrading to the new 2012 process caused a substantial shift in colors, particularly in the blue-magenta-cyan region. It was a picture of boats in a bay at dusk that I chose because of the wide range of colors, and I could not get the surface of the water to match, even with some substantial tinkering with HSL.

My first guess is that the DNG profile changed?

The real test is to compare LR4 to PS CSx and CRx.
If they fixed it ... LR3 and LR4 will be different.
But if they fixed it correctly LR4 color will be same as CSx CRx.

My experience is local adjustments would absolutely bring it to its knees.
