Photos Soft

I was hoping to get some fresh eyes on a couple of photos. I process in DPP usually and when I get done they are usually "tack" sharp. Once saving them to JPEG they seem slightly soft. Very frustrating. The dragonfly has had some Photoshop sharpening, but still neither is what I would consider "tack" sharp. Am I expecting too much?

one reason for the lack of sharpness.. is because you are compressing them too high as jpgs..

I can see the jpeg artifacting in both images..

I would like to see both images cropped tighter ( that could just be me) but still..

I struggle to get the picture to the appropriate size for the forum though. Any suggestions?
