I can't advocate keeping secrets from your spouse. Regardless how many bank accounts you have, you need to come to an agreement on what you can spend on camera gear and what she can spend on worthless stuff like =SUM(clothes, shoes, makeup, haircareproducts, jewelry, etc). :D

Still, it would be hard to prove that the 7D would make better pictures than the perfectly good T3i that you already own. Specs and reviews are meaningless unless/until you have the skills to get the most out of a camera.

Keep your eyes open for a nice used 5D Mk II. Despite its obsolescence, it's a friggin' amazing camera that will actually make use of the 61% of the lens image that your current camera wastes. Here you can show your beloved bride the difference:

I want the 7D for the faster fps continuous and 1/8000 max vs 1/4000. Plus the body feels amazing.

I understand that. You understand that. Everyone reading this understands that. But we're talking marital property here, so you need a reason that will hold up in court. ;)

(And seriously, I've never, ever actually used 1/8000 shutter speed, and more FPS will just give you more junk images to fill up your hard drive. My 1D Mk III will do 10 fps but I set it to 3fps in burst mode.)

That's where you've gone wrong, joint account for bills, kids and food stuff separate account for my stuff that she has no access too..

Works a treat.

This is what we do. The wife wouldn't know if I bought another big black camera since they all pretty much look the same. I've actually got clearance to buy a 5DIII but I don't feel comfortable dropping that kind of dough right now.

My wife loves my photography hobby. There are no issues when I purchase new equipment.
Better than that is the fact she wants me to do less work and more play. She is willing to support me...so, I am now down to working 2 days per week and playing the rest.

just a few of my thoughts...

I had a pair about 6 years ago. My wife, then girlfriend decided it was better if she held on to them. There is no shame. She did give me the ok for the 70-200 IS II, but I think that was the final straw.....for now. I think I'm more bummed out cause of the price. I could get a 7D bay time, not for $900 though.

It is interesting that in a lot of married couples, the husband assumes a child like role and has money doled out to him by his "Mom"......after she has OK'd it of course.

Not my house... I got out from under moms thumb 35 years ago and kept it that way.

My wife is pretty cool about toys and projects. Sometimes you just got to be fair about things and let them have some fun too.
