PS you can, as for LR I've never used it but I've heard "dark table
" is the linux compatible equivalent.
If you wanna try out linux you can run it as a demo off a USB without installing nothing, many distributors include open office in their linux packages which can run excell if you ever need to do some stuff from that at home.
Best part is that Linux is FREE, the most user friendly ones are ubuntu and kubuntu.

(if you like the feel of the MAC OS)
If you have time you can run them as demos to see if you like them. You can also run windows virtually inside of linux if you ever come into a software that will not run in linux.
