CS5 and LR3 onto SSD

Just built a new pc, with a 1Tet HHD and a Mushkin 60G SSD. I Installed MS Win 7 onto the the SSD, and intend to put the CS5 there.
Any reason to not install Lightroom 3 also onto the SSD?
My thought is let them reside there, and let all the other active work be done on the HDD. Sound OK?

I think it's going to be a little tight with an average 64bit SSD win7 install at 16Gb (without hibernation or Virtual), CS5 is about 27Gb with space for disk cache, preview files, and no plugins, then Lightroom 3 at about 1 gb with no extras. A 128gb ssd might have been a better choice.

I suppose I could remove CS5 and put it on the HDD if needed. Don't know if it makes a difference, but the GTX550TI has 2G memory.
What symtoms would I typically see if the ssd has too much installed?

I've got CS4 and LR4 residing on the SSD with the LR catalog and image files on a 5400rpm internal HDD. I've been happy with this arrangement. My SSD has 115GB capacity with about 50GB available.

I have a 60gb SSD and Win 7 Home, CS5, LR, Premiere Elements and a ton of other plugins and programs (Nik and OnOne plugins, Microsoft Office, Quicken, Nero, Paragon Hard Disk Manager) on it.
Only using a little less than 20gb. But I did remove a lot of eastern language fonts and some other junk. Even without removing the junk, it would work fine.

Ok, I'm going to load it up. No gaming but a lot of photo work.
I actually installed Intel i5 3450S (iinstead of i7); all I need for my work, and I suppose a little less heat.
I'm amazed at how fast this setup is, compared to my nice, but 4 yr old system. When I clk to go online, it's up before my finger gets off the mouse!

Are you trying to get your OS and programs to boot quickly, or do you want to process images quickly?

For fast boot and program startup, put programs and OS on the SSD.

For fast work with LR, put the catalog and caches on the SSD, images on a large fast disk, and OS/programs on another spinning disk.

Personally I got two SSDs and did both.

I had CS5 and LR3 on my 64gb SSD until I upgraded. You should be fine as keep the SSD to OS and programs only.

I use my 64gb to load my OS and very few OS related applications
I also have a 128gb for which i load my programs on.

That seems like a pretty silly way to load things. The OS takes about 20GB, my programs take 12GB, and swap space is 4-16GB. That all fits easily onto a 64GB SSD, and makes sense to put them together because OS and program files are rarely accessed at the same time, and together makes backups easier.

Use your second SSD as catalog and cache. Though by default that will be on your C drive, so you probably have them on an SSD already.

My "My Programs" folders currently take up about 160gb of space.
That is not including the windows install.

What'd you do, install every program ever made?! Or lots of games?

There is a lot of junk in there, I could likely remove a 1/3 of it and a 1/3 would be games.
That still leaves around 50GB of progams.
It does include most of the CS6 Master Suite and the full MS Office Suite.
I also have Photoshop CS5.5, some redundant programs like Premier Elements.

Ah yes, the whole Adobe Suite would take up some room, I only use PS and don't play games. I do have development tools and databases on mine, but they're not stupid large.

I would def install OS and all apps on the SSD drive. Though it will be a bit tight there with only a 60GB. Might want to looking upgrading that soon. The prices on SSDs are dropping literally daily.
