At a horse event today and the main photo person hired a few other photographers to help shoot the event. What is a ballpark figure on what they make per day? I know it depends on the event, but 8-10 hours in the hot sun then PP, if any?

All I have to do is shoot and hand over the memory cards at the end of the night....no PP work or dealing with the end customers. We agreed to a flat day rate of $600 plus gas for any out of town events.....I felt this was a fair offer as a second shooter. I've also been offered as little as $10 an hour to assist/second shoot events....that's just not worth it IMO and I turn those offers down.

Pay varies depending on the scope of the gig, how much I can charge, and how much I need someone. The freelancers can chose to accept or pass on the gig. Full-time freelancer.

I would love even for one wedding or shoot to just follow and help setup and all that just to learn but I am in a small town and I don't know where to look.

My day rate includes up to ten hours after that its at least $30.00 per hour from there on. I dont know your equipment or experience so I cant speak to that but if your demanding these rates you really should have a good grasp on your skilz. Jeff

Second shooters aren't hired so they can learn. They're competent photographers in their own right who are hired to add coverage of equal quality. Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here

I shoot for on occasion for an international sports event photography business at a rate of $350 per half day (up to 4 hours). No PP required, just shoot, hand in the cards and walk away. Big emphasis on getting a high number of quality photos though. - Adrian

I've found that there are lots of people who will try to "lowball"....and I'm guessing that's mainly because they simply don't have the budget but there are others who do offer a fair deal. From my perspective, if I'm hiring another photographer to help me out, I want to pay him/her as much as the market will bear because I know just how tough it can be in the business. I really appreciate it when other photography studios do the same for me

I need to move back to Ohio, If you guys are getting these rates power to you. Although I dont belive $300. for a day rate would be considered low balling really. But at $600. per day maybe it is.lol... X-images wrote in post #14476492 I guess the rates vary.
