EF Lens Question

I just got started into photography and have a newbie question!

I have a 10D with a EF70-200mm F2.8L IS USM lens. What setting should the Focusing Distance Range be set to in different situations? It can be set to 1.4m/4.6 ft. to infinity or 2.5m/8.2 ft. to infinity. I'm not sure what to set it to for a given photo opportunity. I will mainly be shooting fast moving objects that will be coming closer to me as I take the photos, such as cars, trains, etc.

Thanks for the help!

Unless you are going to be using the lens close-up have it set for 2.5m. The reason is simply that focus will be quicker because there's less distance for all the bits to travel.

It doesn't matter how often you switch between 1.4m and 2.5m. Occasionally, the lens might hiccough and take a bit longer to refocus, if you do something like change to 2.5m and you're focussed at 2m, but not a problem.

Regards,
