The P7000 is a pretty good looking little camera based on specs, and at $250 from Amazon is appealing from a price aspect. I'm going to give her the option of the P7000 and the Olympus and see what she says. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

I'll add in a late Olympus plug as well. Check out the E-PM1 as an option. Better than the E-PL1. Refurb kits, with the 14-42II lens, are $300 at Cameta Camera.

JPEGs SOOC are outstanding in iAuto mode.

Biggest issue is you have to go with a prime lens to keep it compact. The Panny 14/2.5 is nice at ~ $170, or the 20/1.7 at ~ $350. Maybe one of those is next step if she embraces the whole idea.

If you want a P&S with lots of features, CHDK and a lot of zoom capability, an SX40 is nice.
