First time shooting drifting and also my first time watching a drift competition live, gotta admit I'm hooked. I think I did ok for my first time, some photos I liked others I wished they came out better. There's always next time so hopefully I can improve. C&C is always appreciated.

You did great for your first time. I was hooked too the first time I saw these guys. The course change this year made photography more difficult, as did the winds from the east (not typical here).

the Aasbo angle is a bit much, but everything is pretty straight forward here. most are tack sharp, the colors and contrast seem pretty spot on so you're about 10 levels better than the typical fanboy drift photographer. only other thing I'd say is that I'd prefer to see all of both cars in shot 5.

Thank you! Yeah it doesn't sound like too many people like the new layout lol For photography, it didn't seem to make sense either that they didn't initially allow you around the horseshoe. Are you going to be able to make it to FL?

Thank you! I didn't realize that angled shot had a name, it is a bit much I agree. Think I was trying to mix up the shots and that was one of them. I would've loved to get both cars in #5 too, pretty sure that was taken with the 300 so a little limited there. I was off on lens selection though. when I'd use the 70-200 for the closer stuff, the action happened further away. Then I'd switch and the action would be too close lol A learning experience, unfortunately I don't have 4 arms and 2 pairs of eyes :)

I have a few more on my blog site if you guys don't mind checking them out. I think the ones I'm so-so just don't seem to have that "pop" I see in others photos. I'm sure its a mixture of my lack experience and shooting around 1/40 sec without IS but maybe you guys can find other things I need to work on :)

I hope they change it back next year but OTOH it was more challenging for the drivers. Nope, can't make it to FL for the next one. Would love to but I'm headed to Yellowstone & Grand Teton in a couple of weeks and that's all the travel I can afford for a while.

Nice shots!!

If you aren't already committed to shoot for anyone in FL, I think I can get you some paid work. Shoot me an email.

The old setup was pretty much reversed right? Instead of going up and entering at the top of the horseshoe or "P" they entered at the bottom? I vaguely remember seeing the old layout during the media meeting. Hopefully we can meet in person at a future FD event, always wanted to go to Yellowstone so can't be mad about you going there instead of FL :)

Yep - they used to into the bottom and go around counter-clockwise. Those of us regular folks on the outside of the track, outside the fence, could get clear shots most of the way around. The new route lays down a wall of smoke between us and the cars as they go around the horseshoe clockwise. The media guys on the inside of the track and people in the reserved areas get a better view. I'd love to shoot for media sometime so I could move around and get better shots. It's so crowded that once you pick a good spot along the fence you had better not move all day. That's not the way I like to shoot.

yeah 100% understandable. The reason you listed about the 300mm is the exact reason why I usually stick to the 70-200 and shoot with a crop body. if I need more "reach", the pixel denisty on the 7D allows me to make a considerable crop into the shot without losing much (if any) image quality. Of course, i don't get the luxury of the FF DOF. but, if I'm panning i don't mind too much. And if I'm freezing shots, the DOF on a 70-200 2.8 isn't terrible.

Most importantly though, the shots are all sharp, have great color, and great contrast.
