I have read of many troubles with various 3rd party lenses and outer focus points, but will my 450D and 500D bodies be able to use outer focus with good effect with my Cannon 35mm 2.0, 60mm Macro, and my 100mm2.0?

I know that I remember folks saying that the cross type center on the rebel bodies is the one that works with faster lenses at 2.8 and below, but was hoping because I have Canon lenses that these would be able to work properly with the outer focus points. I am tired of locking focus and recomposing all the time. i find that shooting at 2.0 and shifting after focus is not that accurate for me and often results in soft images.

Two bodies, three lenses...no less than six combinations. Add the top/bottom and left/right focus points and multiple apertures and the number of combinations gets enormous. I suggest you set up your own testing and see if you are satisied with the results.

They will work, but not always as well as the center point just because the center is the only cross type point you have.

My 60D has 9 cross points, so all work equally well, at least I haven't seen any issues with any of my lenses, including my 70-200 f4 (and f5.6 with the 1.4 TC mounted), or the 10-22 f3.5-f4.5. All seem to focus well with whatever point I use.
