With my new 350D, and it being my first SLR, I've had a little bit of trouble getting the shots I really want. This one finally came out just the way I saw it through my own eyes..Any comments/Suggestions?

I dunno, but it seems like all the golden glow from the background overtake the subject of the picture. At least, that's where my eye seems to be drawn.

Any chance you could tone down the background, and make the subject "pop" a little more?

The background is a little distracting but you could (up to you as its your shot)tone it down a bit, as well as the dog's throat. The dog is gorgeous. Wonderful light ( very warm ) and detail in the face, and the eyes are amazing. The white stripe running from snout to behind the head is very interesting as well.

Maybe one of you could edit the photo to give me an idea of what you're talking about. One thing I have not learned is "pop" and how to do it. I'm trying.

I have given it a shot and have attempted to make the change as subtle as I can. Hopefully I have not exceeded what I originally suggested. I have re-attached your original shot just below the adjusted shot for comparison. I toned down the higlites in the background and then separately on the dog's throat and then face ( Photoshop CS2 Shadow/Higlite slider).

I agree with Gary, this does improve the look of the photo.

I see what you're saying now. I appreciate the critique and the example. I will definately try to employ this in the future. I am very amature, and my skills are limited, but I'm happy to say that they're improving. :)
