Anyone had this, I turn on my 7D and it tells me it cannot read the battery? They all work on the 5DII. So I cleaned the contacts etc...but no joy. Will it mean a trip to a Canon AGAIN  ?

My 7D won't read after-market batteries. I've tried several, with the same result. It will only read the actual Canon battery.

I have a Optika battery in my T2i which the camera won't read the remaining charge while it reads the Canon battery just fine. I received two Canon batteries with my 7D and of course the camera reads them both.

There was a thread some time ago that talked about how Canon cameras can not read some after market batteries while they can read others and it named the batteries the Canon cameras would read. So if you are really interested in getting a aftermarket battery for your 7D you could search for the thread. I found that when searching for aftermarket batteries on Amazon that the reviews would often state whether or not the camera could read the battery.

My solution to the problem was to have the Canon and Optika batteries fully charged before going out to shoot. I would use the Optika first and when it ran out I would pop in the Canon which would always let me know how much battery life I had left.

OK, looks like I am alone since my batteries are Canon original.
