My MacBook pro crapped out. Bad logic board. I have a g5 quad processor but runs 10.4. Husb has always wanted an iPad and I see on here a lot of peoLe use them for pics. Do u just use them in the field or for editing and all? Our biz is without a computer till geek squad fixes the laptop. Im considering an iPad but seems so limited compared to computers.

Tablets are consumers of information, not producers. Sounds like it's time for an upgrade to a modern computer.

Desktop PC for editing, laptop for field editing if needed but mostly to drop photos on as a precaution to losing a card (happened...), tablet for SHOWCASING photos.

Tablets are def not for editing. They are just for viewing. Build yourself a new PC or buy a new Mac.

We don't serious edit in the field. We download the files at night, check for obvious bad files, discard the bad ones, and backup the rest to at least one other HD. Back home with large calibrated monitors we can do a second review, mark favorites, edit favorites, and back them all up.

My wife uses her Ipad2 to show jpg versions of some photos. We have used the laptop to do presentations using photos that were edited on the desktop.

I would only ever want to do any kind of editing (and even serious review) on a proper desktop workstation with decent processor, and quality displays. Ideally one with a comfy chair too. I can simply get a vastly superior flow there than with any kind of portable hardware for similar price.

I might consider using something like an ASUS Transformer for in the field backup creation and maybe initial culling of bad shots. (Tests with obvious blown sections, accidental shots, etc.)

Thanks again for all the replies. Right now I think i will hold off on the Ipad (this confirms what I originally thought...nothing useful really) and wait for my macbook to get back. I use that now for editing. I know we should upgrade this desktop, it has extra hard drive and ram already but doesnt have the intel processor. I really hate that it's so out of date! This has truly been the best computer ever, not a single issue and used daily for 6 years! Sux.....

Right now I am using the canon CD on this old one. I found an old CD that will work. It's rather slow tho.
