A few of the Hornets and Super Hornets that displayed at RAAF Pearce Air Show 2012. Would have killed for reasonable lighting as getting reasonably exposed images with the sun right along and back from the runway centreline (meaning aircraft were mostly flying directly into or away from the sun) was a nightmare.

Well, despite you lighting conditions, those are some nice pics :-)
And here, I'd kill for blue sky.

You did very well considering where that sun was on the day. Shadows where shocking! Which lense where you using?

Nice job on the backlighting.

Thanks chaps, really. I really got frustrated looking at what I'd managed to get, did wonder if PP could save anything.

Ah, you were there...great. Glad that someone here saw the lighting too. I had checked on the (magnificent) iPad App TPE (anyone else use this to check how lighting will be at an event?) and I had gone there before to check if the lighting would be as bad as TPE indicated....so I knew it would be difficult.

Then I learned that they had organised for the jets to fly in the afternoon, making matters worse, lighting wise. Man, it was something else...

Concerning equipment, I took my 7D and 5D Mk 3, the first for the reach, the second as I know I can pull shadows in PP considerably more with this body. Glad I made that call and, have to say, LR 4 has worked some magic with these.

The lenses I used were the 100-400 and the 500 with and without 1.4 TC (if you saw a chap at the crowd line muttering to himself incessantly and constantly blowing his nose, that was me!).

How did you find the show? I have to say, I found the f18s displays pretty sedate, verging on pedestrian. Seen many, many F18 displays from many Air Forces and the displays of the RAAF F18s at Pearce were disappointing. They simply seemed not to want to really stretch their legs. Wonder if it was a noise abatement issue? Something was up, anyhow, I'm pretty sure of that.

That said - I do have to say I enjoyed it. It was great to see an air show in Perth. It was also great to see how it pulled the crowds.

Tony Blair stole the show, I thought. Also, my first time seeing the Roulettes - they really impressed me, have to say. Alas, with the lighting and red and white aircraft (pulling out reds cast in shadow in PP without casting the whites - arrggh!) I only have a few keepers of them.

(Going to stop now....I have a digression alert flashing on the monitor).

Excellent shots, one of the jets we were meant to send over for the airshow had a few 'dilemmas' while practicing over this side, perhaps was made to tone it down a bit for the show?
