What's involved with a book?

Many people who have viewed my macro pictures have said that they are really good and have said that I should publish a book of some of my best. So after hearing this for some time now, I'm looking into it now. I'm sure many forums subscribers have their own books, so this question is directed towards you; what's involved with creating a photography book and getting it published? Thanks for your responses

Are you thinking of self publishing one for your self... Hardcover Books

Or will you get a publisher to print thousands of them?

FrankC - 20D, RAW, Manual everything...
Classic Carz, Racing, Air Show, Flowers.
Find the light... A few Car Lighting Tips, and MOVE YOUR FEET!
Have you thought about making your own book? // Need an exposure crutch?
New Image Size Limits: Image must not exceed 1600 pixels on any side.

Blurb will allow you to make it available for sale, but the prices for single books are more that most people will want to pay. Even your Mother! :D
See the book link in my Sig.

Wow, that does seem pretty expensive, hardly making back what you paid to have it made. What route did you go to do your car book?

The toughest part about book publishing is that you will need to print 1000+ to get reasonable pricing, plus you will always give a cut to the distributor/order processor. For a personal project Blurb, Lulu, Brio, and a few others offer print on demand where the book is only printed when ordered, but the pricing leaves very little profit.
