Canon 50mm f1.8 + 1.4x or 2x teleconverter?

Hi, this may sound like an absurd question, but please stay with me. Please teach me.
Assuming I use nifty fifty wide open and use a 2x converter with a crop sensor.
- Would it become 100mm f2.8 (effective 160mm f2.8 on apsc). Basically where will be the final fstop. I'm not sure how it works when teleconverter is attached?
- Would there be a visible difference in sharpness?
- Will there be any issue in focusing, with this arrangement?

Im actually interested in this setup as well. Or is it worth it to just sell the 50 and get a 100? Theres a nice EF 100mm 2.8 USM macro lens that sounds like a better option.

@ Line: Saw a similar one from Tamron (100mm f2.8 macro) but it costs 50% more in India. Beside my intention it to have the flexibility of 50mm (f1.8 onwards) as well as 100mm(f2.8 onwards, if my assumption is correct).

A quote "This TC does very well indeed with this lens and turns the 50/1.8 into a very useful 70/2.5."

Search is on for 2x + 50mm f1.8. Another quote "A quality 2x on a quality lens can be useful and give excellent results, but a mediocre 2x on a consumer zoom is a recipe for disaster."

@Kin2Son - Thank you. Looks like with 2x it will stop @ f3 (my maths is equally bad ).

100% crop that sharp is very good for me. BTW was it clicked @ f2.5? Or the sharpness is a result of higher f stop. Basically I wanted to understand if the combination suits for low f stop. Looks like @ $200 there is a faster alternative to 24-70 f2.8.

I've had my 50 1.8 attached to my Kenko Pro300 DGX 1.4x TC and it works pretty darn good. My TC will fit on and work on all my lenses whereas the Canon TC is only compatible with 1 of my lenses. I've recently got a 50 1.4 and an 85 1.8 which I've yet to try it on the TC but I'm sure they'll be fine.

I do not want to hijack your topic, but I have a question in the same direction: how does it work with 10-XX lenses? Anyone tried? The main idea behind this is to have a cheap 14mm on FF.

Since there are issues with the focusing of this lens anyway , I would say yes .

I have used a 1.4x TC with my Sigma 10-20mm on my 5d and it works quite well. Makes a nice 14mm-28mm on full frame.
