I just picked up a new watch and am jealous of all the great shots I am seeing. Right now I have the lenses listed below but can't seem to get the max magnification that others do with real macros.

What do you think my options are?

I tried the 35L at first but I was waay too far away and the crops were ok.

Then I tried the 70-200 at 200 but with the minimum focus distance so much farther it was sort of a wash - I even threw on the 2x III extender but still wasn't super impressed at 400mm.

Are extension tubes the answer? I don't really want to pick up a macro lens just for this so any work arounds would be appreciated.

Macro lens or extension tubes would help. It sounds like you want to increase the magnification and those are your options.

a 100mm f2.8 would work well for you I think.

I was playing with my Dad's the other day and did these...

Thanks guys. My new watch has eaten up some fund that would have gone to a new lens. Out of my current setup - what do you think I should do regarding extension tubes - size, number, etc and which lens is the best for it?

Rob,

I'm sure you've already viewed this thread but I'm sure someone there would be happy to answer your questions. The one guy (Canonised) shoots watches professionally.
