This was last night. Submarine on fire in the dry dock. Both my brother and brother in law were called in to fight the fire. It took all night to put it out. Every one was ok. Few minor injuries.

Read about this. Scary stuff...

Glad the injuries were minor and the fire was contained to the forward area of the boat.

Wow! For sure glad about the "minor injuries only" bit!

And, nice that you could be close enough to get shots!

I'm glad no major injuries.

Do you work for the shipyard?

For the record I'm an active duty submariner on shore duty right now.

I do not work there. I was across the river at the dog park. Heard sirens, then saw the smoke.

You really have to admire and respect the bravery and skill of the firefighters. Entering a burning submarine, and working in those conditions - just incredible!
(Not to ignore your pictures - well done capturing the scene)

Yes I agree but can you imagine that while underwater?

I can. I'm a submariner. I can tell you that any casualty underwater no matter how small it is is enough to make you appreciate life.

I saw you had family that responded to the fire. They weren't any of the reported injuries were they?

Actually, I can't even imagine what it would be like to have something go wrong underwater (but I can appreciate how dangerous that would be). I wasn't trying to make it sound like being a submariner wasn't just as difficult. I was just commenting on the event that happened. :)

I didn't take it like that. I've made a few calls about that fire, and man it was bad. I can't imagine how difficult it was for the firefighters to fight a fire on a sub with the lack of knowledge and experience of being on one. It's hard enough when you know.

Where are you stationed at? I'm do to rotate back next year and i'm trying to figure out what kind of boat I want to go on. (I did 5 years on the USS Helena in San Diego/Kittery at the same ship yard.
