1. Male Anhinga - Tortuguero National Park (photographed from a boat)

IMAGE: http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s219/Squidcan/Costa%20Rican%20Birds/Anhinga_03.jpg

2. Boat-billed Heron (a most unusual looking bird) - La Fortuna near Arenal Volcano

IMAGE: http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s219/Squidcan/Costa%20Rican%20Birds/Boatbilledheron_02.jpg

3. Great-tailed Grackle - Tortuguero National Park

4. Great Kiskadee drying its feathers after a bath - La Fortuna near Arenal Volcano. I was pleased with this one because this was taken handheld using the Canon 7D + Caon 500mm F4 + 1.4x teleconverter. :D

cool photos.
that broad billed heron is unusual.
do you know what they eat?
that seems like a fairly specialized beak.

Thank you Jeremy. According to Wikipedia the Boat-Billed heron feeds on fish, mice, water snakes, eggs, crustaceans, insects and amphibians. Just like most other herons.

Thanks Gary. Yes I'm very sorry that I didn't spend a another 20-30 minutes trying to get some other nice images of this species.
