Aren't most DVD players multi-regional?

UK uses PAL standard for TV/DVD. The US, and several other countries, use the NTSC standard.

You may be able to download some software that will enable you to burn a copy of a DVD in a different region format. Google it.

thats not really an issue with DVDs.

the problem is with region codes. DVDs are locked into different market regions as a form of DRM (digital rights management) to prevent people from selling DVDs from one part of the world to another. THis allows film studios and other media producers to set different prices around the world.

if op uses a region free dvd player, then the region code lock is not an issue. most dvds released by major studios or companies are region locked. however, many independent productions are not. Also there are software work arounds for computers to unlock computer's dvd player region lock.

I'm curious -- are computers in PAL countries "aware" of this? With a DVD like the turorial DVDs the OP posted about encoded in a way that would prevent a computer in England from reading/playing such a DVD? In fact, would a computer in England refuse to play a movie DVD from America?

I'm asking because I don't know!

Most, if not virtually all, modern DVDs are multi-region so the region shouldn't be an issue. And most modern tvs can play either PAL or NTSC ( through a bit of clever trickery!) so it shouldn't be an issue. If it is, however, then there are a few programmes that will swap one to another.

Well, my question is really about computers in England and how they handle American DVDs. It seems like they should be able to, but I don't know and would like to hear definitely from someone who, say, bought a computer in England and can (or can't) play an American DVD...?

Kelby Training has an extensive Support page which explains all the details of their DVD-ROMs: http://kelbytraining.com/store/store-support/ (external link)
And if you can't find the answer to your question on the page, there's a form at the bottom which you can use to contact them directly.

Anybody know of site i can download if possible and wont rip my arm off with cost ?

The product is available on DVD-ROM only; if you can find a download site its probably illegal.

Are you sure? IIRC, the last time I really looked at the TV section in the B&H catalog, they had special model TVs which could play either format, but there was a substantial price premium for those models.

And, to follow up on my previous post, I really wasn't talking about software that would get around a different region code. I meant software that would enable burning a NTSC copy of a PAL DVD. My son did that once, but it was not a flawless copy, IIRC.

Training DvD's are not ment to be played on TV's they are ment to be played via computer and I don't see any issues with any region code. As long as the DvD is in a language you understand you should be good to go! Also Kelby Training does sell a 2 DvD set from this fella.

If you buy the US version (Region 1) and you have an issue playing it, DVDShrink will let you burn another copy without region coding.

well been in touch with kelby training and they said contact normal supplier to see why they dont stock it and failing that try amazon.com which is us one.
Amazon uk say its extremely difficult to get and wont be stocking it.
So i look on amazon.com guess what they dont stock it either ?

Kelby training wont ship outside usa.

I dont get it you can get his books over here so they know there are sales to be had so why not the dvd if its a dvd-rom it will play on pc so know issue.

but as of yet had no reply from them.

Anybody know why?

Cheers shane
