I had a nice, clear night to work with. Composition is a little off but it's only my 2nd time trying this.

Nice work. I like the concept but as you said, the composition would be a little better if you had Polaris in the frame. It's a shame it's cut off at the top.

I assume you layered the tent frame in on top? Or did you spend the entire time in your tent ;-)a ?

How many frames?

I ran a generator which powered the light in my tent for several hours. ;)

I think it was about 200 frames. 30 second exposures taken back to back for a couple hours.

Thats nice , however i know you were wanting the tent in the image but a full image of the star trail would have been alot better .

I actually think it would be pretty boring with just the hillside and the star trails. I think the tent is what helps make it interesting. I either need to pick up a fisheye (on my to-do list) or I should've framed it from further away, IMO.

Actually if you framed from farther away it would be even better . Don't get me wrong i like the shot really well . Just there is alot of mountain in the scene and not enough star trails for my taste . But if you had shot higher up you could have the full circle or near full . Take a look at a few of these and you'll see what i'm talking about :

Reall cool idea for a shot. Get polaris in there and it would be perfect

You followed the rules of 1/3, but the foreground should be at 1/3.
Heck, for this shot I'd PP the tent in closer to the ridge top, crop, and see result.

Wow what a phenomenal shot. I love the tent in the foreground, and you did a great job of not blowing out the highlights with it.

Agreed, I think the tent completes and compliments the image. Great job!!
