The lastest dilemma:

Drives!

How important is it to update the "drives"? I believe that would be the mobo & cpu?!?
I do not have internet on the pc's at this time. To be honest I am not even sure if I will install the internet on them as we have laptops that have wireless.

Thanks for any help with this.

Older:

1394 from front control panel of case:
Where do I connect this 9 pin connector on the Sabertooth Z77?

There is a USB 3.0 on the front control panel. Do I run this to the back outer side of the case to connect to the mobo?

Can I use the same SATA cable on an SDD & HDD drive? If so, does it matter in which order the drives are mounted to the cable?
Seems to be ok to do. Everything good so far with both drives on the same SATA cable.

Fans:
The following connections are available on the mobo for the fans:
A: CPU_FAN (4 Pin) - Processor fan using this one!
B: CHA_FAN3 (4 Pin)
CPU_OPT (4 Pin)
C: ASST_FAN1 (3 Pin)
D: CHA_FAN2 (4 Pin)
E: ASST_FAN2 (3 Pin)
F: CHA_FAN4 (4 Pin)
CHA_FAN1 (4 Pin)

How do I know what fan is to connect to the list above? The case came with a front mount 200mm, top mount 200mm, and a back mounted 120mm. All 3 have the same 3 Pin connector. I also purchased 4 additional fans to mount on the mesh side panel. I was thinking about leaving them off until I get everything up and running. So, at this time I am concerned with the 3 OEM fans.

3 OEM fans are connected and working with no issues! I used CHA_FAN1, CHA_FAN2, & CHA_FAN3.

3 or 6 GB/S sata cable to connect SDD, HDD, and dvd burner? Mobo came with both cables.
According to Newegg the hard drives are 6GB/s. Newegg does not state cable type for burner, so will use 3GB/s.

9 pin HD Audio & 9 pin AC'97 connection from the front panel of the case. Are they to be connected to the mobo?
AC'97 is a legacy plug. The HD Audio utilizes the AAFP mobo connection.

I recently received my components to build "His & Her" PC's (Exact same systems). I am curious to what connections I need to connect everything. This is my first pc build.

The Seagate HDD and DVD burner are both bare drives. Not sure about the Crucial SDD as it arrived in a OEM box (have not opened it yet).

There seem to be a lot of wires in the Corsair case. From Corsair's web site I read this:

"2.5” and 3.5” hard drive compatibility for up to 6 drives — straight out of the box!"

Does that mean all the necessary wires are inside for up to 6 drives? Or perhaps the brackets are there to mount up to 6 drives? I don't see it being very cost effective for them to include wiring for 6 drives in every case, but hey what do I know?

Is HDMI best for the monitor connection? Last desktop I had, the monitor was about 40lbs, took up about 2.5 cubic feet, and used one of those cables that required threading 2 screws to connect it

If it helps, here are the components I went with for the builds:

Case: Corsair 600T

CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K

Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth Z77

Power Supply: Seasonic M12II 620w Bronze

Memory: 16GB Corsair 1600 DDR3

Video Card: Not needed

Storage SDD: 128GB Crucial M4

Storage HDD: 1TB Seagate (bare drive)

Optical Drive: ASUS DRW-24B1ST 24X DVD Burner (bare drive)

Cooling: 4 120mm fans mounted on mesh side panel

Monitor: Asus VS229h-P 21.5" IPS LCD

Thank you for any feedback! Hoping to grab the necessary accessories today and put everything together tomorrow / Monday

The case will come with all the mounting screws and motherboard stand offs.
Even the cheap ones now also come with cable ties to help with cable management (USE THEM!)
Remember take the molex connectors off the fans and use the small connectors to run the fans off the mother board.
I think all the corsair cases have screw less hard drive mounts similar to the coolermaster. That makes things much easier!

And remember to run all the cables through the cable management slots so they are out of the way behind the board and not hanging over it.
It improves air flow, makes the case run cooler and quieter and easier to clear and work in.

The motherboard will most likely come with at least 4 SATA cables (my ASUS board did) and of course the power supply should have at least 6 SATA power connectors on it, as well as all the connections for the board and CPU.
There will also be un-needed connections for a graphics card.

And have fun!

and if needed ask questions here, most of us have built lots of computers :)
(I built two this weekend)

So long and thanks for all the flash

After a successful test boot, I mounted the psc, mobo, SDD, and HDD inside the case. Couple of questions about wiring:

1) Fans.

I am so new to this I had to google "motherboard standoffs".

Will do!

No molex connectors on any of the 3 fans

Yes, the drives were a snap to install

It improves air flow, makes the case run cooler and quieter and easier to clear and work in.

I also removed the bottom drive tray to allow the air better flow. I will most likely add one more drive in the near future. Not sure when I'll need that second tray.

Can I use one SATA cord for both a HDD and SDD?

I believe a 2nd identical connector is for a floopy drive if I remember correctly?

So far, so good! I think the 2nd build will be more fun since I will have a much better understanding of what I am doing :p

My computer build looks like a rats nest, cables everywhere. I found the cables supplied weren't long enough and couldn't go behind the motherboard... plus I don't know how to manage that with big connectors on power cables anyway.

Well zip ties are your friend even if you can't hide the cables bundling them together will work wonders. You should however be able to stuff the cables down along the sides/overhang of the Mobo. It's easier to do with sleeved cables and having a modular PSU is even better for new builders especially. My case has a tray but no cable management ports so it took some creative thinking to overcome. I just tucked most of them under the edges of the board and others behind the back of my drive bays.

I just figured a few wires didn't matter that much. The motherboard power cable's massive, cables to fans, I have six drives, power cables everywhere. I might take a photo some time.

3 or 6 GBS sata cable to connect dvd burner? Mobo came with both cables.

Thank you.

The cables are exactly the same. They just give you different colours to make it easier to spot the different devices if you want to.

You can even put SATA and SATA 2 devices on the SATA 3 connections on the board, it is all backwards compatible.

The SATA power cables can power as many devices as there are power connections.
Usually 3 per cable.

So the CPU fans are clearly for the CPU. Some after market CPU coolers have multiple cans, which is why there are 2 CPU Fan headers on your board.

CHA is short for Chassis.
So just connect the case fans to any of those headers. Don't worry if they are a 3 pin connection, the 4th pin isn't always used :)

Before loading Windows you should make sure everything is properly configured in the BIOS, most likely the processor will be configured properly, you may need to set the RAM speed, most likely 1333 or 1600. Also you should set the SATA Controllers to AHCI if not already set. If not comfortable doing this you can find all the options in the manual.

I didn't see the RAM speed in the BIOS. It is 1600. Will the RAM even work if configured to 1333?

I will look for this in the manual.

The RAM will work fine at 1333, the settings are most likely on auto.

If you have already installed windows and the SATA controllers are not set to AHCI, changing to AHCI will probably cause a windows boot error.

I do remember the manual stating that the BIOS is set from the factory and recommended not to adjust.

Just curious what is the downfall to not changing to AHCI?

Also, ordered 10' HDMI's to make the screens somewhat portable :p

Thanks again.
