It's difficult to change from IDE to AHCI after the windows install. AHCI is newer, I think it enabled NCQ (google it). You could google ahci vs ide too.

It seems AHCI is the way to go when their is an SSD involved. I will find out if AHCI is set by default. If not, luckily the pc only has Windows and LR installed at this time. So, it won't take much time to start over from a clean slate if I have to. Thanks for the feedback!

Assuming you have your SSD connected to the brown SATA 6 Gb/s port and AHCI is not enabled install the Intel AHCI/RAID driver via download or the disk that came with the motherboard before changing to AHCI. Then restart the computer, enter BIOS and change to AHCI, save and exit BIOS, computer may boot into windows with no problems.

If you get a blue screen or boot drive error put your windows disk in and go through the steps to repair windows. If this fails then it's probably just as fast to reinstall windows than try and repair or change AHCI back to previous setting.

The lastest dilemma:

Drives!

How important is it to update the "drives"? I believe that would be the mobo & cpu?!?
I do not have internet on the pc's at this time. To be honest I am not even sure if I will install the internet on them as we have laptops that have wireless.

Thanks for any help with this.

On new hardware like the Sabertooth Z77, driver and BIOS updates can mean the difference between problematic and stable. It's usually best to install the newest drivers available.
