I just bought a new cable; with mini->regular HDMI plugs. I plugged it into between my D60 and the HDMI input on the back of my TV.

I turned the camera on in Video mode. The LCD was blank; as expected, but so was the TV screen. I didn't have any video recorded at the time but it just occurred to me that maybe this setup was just for HDMI playback; not for monitoring.

In order to monitor my shoot, live; on the big screen, should I get an A\V Digital cable?

I just checked the Canon site and they don't have one. I also checked my local camera store and they told me they didn't have them either. That seems strange.

Not sure if this helps,

Did you turn TV and camera off first, switch on TV, then make sure you choose the correct input port on the TV, then switch on camera and press play.

from 600D manual

Likely you have done so anyway.

Thanks for your response. This issue wasn't so much about playback as about displaying the camera's LCD/viewfinder output on my flat screen.

I did follow your suggestion and got playback.

Then I stumbled onto a cable; found in a drawer and still in the wire wrap, that must have come with my camera.

It has the A\V digital plug on one end and the 3 phone jacks (Yellow, Red, Black) on the other. That is what I was looking for on the web! I plugged it in and viola! Worked like a champ :D
