Haha, knew my gutters needed cleaning ... went out yesterday to empty them out but now I think I'll leave it, if it means I can get close to these noisy little critters which were quite happy to pose for photos. Using my Tamron 200-400mm, I had to use the short end and shoot at around 250mm! Wish it was a faster lens as this was facing west at sunset and couldn't try and shots of them flying away as I was shooting at around 1/125th of sec.

I love Lorikeets, so i decided to start putting food out for them. Within three days, the entire Queensland Lorikeet population was on my deck. Lorikeets are argumentative little buggers, always squabbling over food or the best twig to perch on. I often see one hanging upside-down from a branch while another pecks its foot to make it let go. They're hilarious. And very, very noisy. :D

They're also messy little things and their poo soon started to cover everything. They also started to intimidate our poor old dog - seriously, the Lorikeet is scared of nothing. I watched one slowly waddle up to dear old Molly, staring her straight in the eye. When it got within a few inches she got up and hurried away, at which point I swear the bloody bird turned around, puffed out his chest feathers, and waddled back to the group wearing a "Well I sorted the bloody dog out lads!" face.

So in the end I had to stop.

Thanks acajun!

Damn, maybe I will clean out the gutters, don't want the entire population, just a few, haha. Love the story about your poor dog, would've been great if you had the camera at the ready!
