Before going to my regular car check up I decided to drive around a trail and I might have found my own version of "bird paradise". I was really suprised to see the variety of birds in a very small place. I will be posting them when I get more decent pics. I will be going back to that place when I have more time.

Here are some, found a couple of cedar waxwings resting in branch. I had to use a slower shutter speed in some of the shots because there are in a very shaded area. A few shots I was lucky enough the cedar waxwing landed on a branch that had some sunlight.

No. 3 is definitely my favourite, Jo, but I like the whole set. They are such beautiful birds.

Thanks Levina, yes with their very groomed feathers, they are really beautiful. I think they are the 'cats' amongst birds :)

Pretty shots of pretty birds Joe... looks like you have found an excellent birding area... the waxwings are one of my favorite birds.

Thanks Sharon, with that black mask and hair style, I think they are the 'dudes' of birdland :)

Good shots Jo,
You ask for comments, so here goes, hope its ok :)
Watch out for overexposure. How do you measure your light, and what mode do you shoot in?
Do you use highlight alert? expose so you just barely see any clipping, this way you will have more dynamic width left.
Other than that, I think you have done a great job, focus is spot on on all but the last one.. EXIF data would be helpfull to leave in the images.. :)

Best
Thomas

Hi Thomas, I love your work and any comments from you is a compliment :). I always shoot in raw and manual mode. I do use highlight alert, but only when I remember it LoL :D . In most cases, I just look at the exposure level indicator very quickly. In a lot of cases, the bird is gone by the time I adjusted the shutter speed or aperture or ISO. It's something I need to master and hopefully I am getting better at it. I was intentionally over exposing the bird by a third because they were in a very shaded branch but unfortunately, the area or parts of the bird that had some sunlight on, was overexposed hence lost the details.

I thought I have been keeping the EXIF intact, thanks for letting me know :) (I don't have a viewer on my browser).

Thanks Jeremy, amazing how these birds accentuate themselves, wish humans can do it also, naturally :)
