Hey there POTN,

This is my first post here and I wanted some help on a recent issue. I have only been shooting for about a year. But in that year Ive covered a lot of ground. I'm shooting a lot of weddings and fashion editorial.

My issue is that im still shooting on very entry level equipment that being a rebel T3i, a 50mm 1.8 and my kit 18-55 lens. I shoot with my 50mm 98% of the time and im wondering if I should invest in something like a 50 1.2 or if I should pick of a new focal length?

I recently picked up the 17-55. I started out with just having the 50mm 1.8 and now that I'm gonna be starting Weddings I find the need to get something wider.

How was it shooting weddings with the 50mm? I couldn't see that 50mm being used effectively for group shots unless you were quite far away, its more of a portrait lens. I'd like to hear back from you regarding it.

As for what your next lens should be...If you shoot 98% of your shots at 50mm focal length you probably couldn't go wrong with the 50mm 1.2 ( I hear good things about this lens).

There's nothing wrong with your gear unless you have gear lust or need durability (neither the kit or 50 1.8 are built Ford tough). If you shoot with the prime mostly and can afford it (you're looking at the 50 1.2 suggests you can afford it) I'd get the 35 1.4L.

I would choose the 85 1.2 or 35 1.4

I would replace the 50 1.8 with 50 1.4. That's a big upgrade and cheap compared to the 1.2.
