Current version already costs $1500. I'm going to assume this will be in the price range of the 28-300L.

I'm thinking of getting the 100-400L for sports instead of the 70-200 f/4 IS as it has a longer reach.

It would only help me if it raised my FPS. I know using crop mode helps the buffer but does not affect the FPS greatly.

That's where the D400 falls into place. ;)

You can do that on a Canon too, it is called CROP IT. On the other hand, don't like 36MP? sorry bro, no mRAW or sRAW.

KenjiS wrote in post #14627386 (external link)
That never mattered to me, Meh, Why buy a camera with so many megapixels and then not use them?

themadman wrote in post #14627544 (external link)
Cause the files are HUGE and most the time you don't need that kind of ginormous resolution.

dgrPhotos wrote in post #14627842 (external link)
That amount of resolution will help with macro and birds giving you even more head room to crop when necessary.

If you are buying the D800 then you know the files are large. What is the big deal at that point? Really it shouldn't even be a surprise

Nice going canon! Dont use the SD card slot on the 5dmkIII if you need that buffer to clear fast. Apparently it doesnt matter how fast of an SD card or CF card you buy as the 5dmkIII will default to its slow speed of 133x if an SD card is present! Solution? Make sure you don't have an SD card in the 5dmkIII to take advantage of the high speed card you might have in the CF slot. WTH Cannon?

I'm in. Don't need great high iso performance for birding. Fast FPS is nice to have and a great AF system is essential.
