Actually they are consistently ranked as the top 10 jobs in the US! It usually places as #1-3. You work in a good environment, virtually no stress (when you get the job that is ).

If you're just entering college you still have time to decide. Just make sure what you pick is something you like to do for a long time to come. If being an actuary is something you want to do then go for it.

Regarding "You work in a good environment, virtually no stress" that will always depend on where you are working. You cannot predict that one.

I'd like to think there's no stress ;)

And yeah, if I don't like actuarial sciences as a major I'm looking at accounting (BORING) and engineering. I'm more of a hard sciences/math guy, can't stand english/SS.

If you want to be as marketable as possible and be able to work with the largest rising economy in the world, China, i would make sure to learn mandarin. When you are making big bucks over there assessing their risk can you simply buy me a canon L lens for pointing you in that direction? That is all i will want as a thank you gift ;)

 why can't I buy you a 1Dx5? I've always wanted to learn some form of Chinese. Especially so I can order my chinese food in Chinese! Anyways, yeah you are right, that is IF I work for a business and not an insurance company assessing mortality rates!

Nah i am modest. A lens will be fine :D Mandarin will be invaluable to you regardless of what major you choose. Trust me. It is in very high demand and you will be able to apply it to anything you choose to do in your life.
