2 years at a CC then get a degree on top afterwards? meanwhile the world moves forwards swiftly, and you're overtaken by young kids.

If you want a nice option to buy you more time before doing a degree, take a gap year. It will be so much more beneficial and great for life experiences, but only if you do something with it.

bold statements...

on one hand you're talking 10 years to get through all the courses, how many indian mathematician wizards and chinese kids would have done the same courses? How will the financial markets be in the future? Maybe you'll be making less than a McDonald's worker, maybe you'll be making a fad wad of cash? You cannot assume anything, and don't hedge your bets on getting an excellent wage right off the bat either...

You have a point, but to be honest actuaries are alway in demand hence their unemployment rate. Maybe I won't be making a TON of money when I first get started but if I decide to pursue it and I am good at it then I will be making a ton of money. I believe the avg. starting salary is $50k then again I'm always out for money so I could probably do research and get a job starting at a bit more.

Unless money is NOT an issue community college** is the way to go. Gives you two years to figure out what you want to do without spending the big bucks. Then go get your big degrees at the more expensive schools afterward.

** I work for a community college so my opinion may be bias. :p

Yes, if money isn't an issue it's a great way to go! I know that a bunch of people have done that and have gone on to some nice ivy league schools or become big business people. It's really not what college you go to, it's what you do after is my way of looking at things.

I don't want to go to a CC though as that's college well wasted. If I go to college on the island I'm losing the whole experience (or so I've been told). I just wanna get away even if it means living in the city, that's away from the island.

Unless he plans on getting a 4 year degree in 2 years this makes no sense.

Not so sure about that statement either. I went to a public school which truly does have a 99% graduate to college ratio. The graduating classes are about 60 students total so about 1 out of that group doesn't go to college and we didn't have to take the Regents exams most schools in NY State had to :D

+1 for me. It is very unusual for a kid that went to my HS to not go to college. It is even unusual for someone to go to community college. Most go to a 4 year college. Many go to very prestigious schools.

I know that the valedictorian I believe went to Binghamton while some other kids got into UPenn and Colombia as well as Stanford proving that the smartest don't go to ivy league (or at least may not have money). But the valedictorian kinda made you feel stupid.... one of those kids :rolleyes:

I'm sure I'll get into a good college though, I'm really not worried, I didn't even study for the ACT's as I thought I was going to do horrible yet I got a 27. Then again I don't really ever study for anything... Which is why I'm not looking forward to college (but otherwise I am).

I just asked the fellas in the other thread as well, but maybe someone here will know. So I just pricked my finger, how do I figure out my blood type again? Someone claimed you can do it by taste, but it just tastes like blood to me.

I think you do a pee test, go find someone you trust and have them pee on you.

It's like a reddish brown on a piece of tissue.
