Hello guys, I recently bought a 430ex ii flash for my rebel camera (which i am hoping to upgrade to a full frame in some 2 years time). Even though flash attached on camera is great, i feel very restricted to creativity by not able to trigger flash remotely. I am still very much at my learning stage with my flash and would consider a wireless trigger with ETTL capabilities to start with later on may be i will learn to do manual. I am not looking for any commercial setup, just a hobbyist trying to feed my creative sense at home or somewhere around. I have heard of pocket wizard plus but i don't think they are ETTL capable, any other you can suggest...ST-E2 seems to be quite costly...

anything to do off camera flash + ETTL is going to be expensive. the flashes are expensive, the triggers and receivers are expensive, batteries, stands, modifiers, etc.

I'd recommend a manual flash like the YN560 and a trigger like the rf 602.

pixel kings allow you to do ETTL and HSS but they are also about $90 a receiver (and $30 a trigger). the rf602 are about half. there are A LOT of threads on getting into OCF so you may want to do some searching.

One option is to use an extended ETTL cable to get your 430EXII off the camera hotshoe. Here are a few: http://www.flashzebra.com …rds/ettlcords/index.shtml (external link)

You were correct in saying that the Pocket Wizard Plus (as well as the Plus II) models are not ETTL capable. However, the ControlTL models (MiniTT1 and FlexTT5) are ETTL capable.

There are a number of other ETTL capable triggers also available; I am sure that others will likely chime in. If not, just search a little in this section and you should be able to find the answers that you are looking for.

radio poppers are a favorite of most (at least canon shooters) but they are about $500 a set (1 trigger, 1 receiver)

OCF is sooo much fun. Like, others mentioned it adds up quickly with cost. There is good set-ups for cheap though. I went for a budget set-up and am still able to get very good shots. Set of RF603s should set you up to use your flash off camera. Though, you still might want a stand and modifier.

$100 should get you those items...unless you go for the top brands.

With my budget set-up.

Aputure Trigmaster Plus will hold you until your ready to spend for more costly triggers and lighting.

They have the reliability of more expensive triggers at a fraction of the price.
