Gave it a brief spin, mostly Spot Healing/Cloning which used to drive me crazy. Seems a lot better. The brush is more responsive too. Sharpening and NR instantaneous. Loading a 21 MP image takes about 4 seconds. So far, so good

Good comments thus far on the speed issues - when I downloaded the trial, I couldn't believe how slow it was compared to 3.7 (or whatever the previous version was).

And just so some might not know: The Camera Raw 7.1 plug-in is not compatible with versions of Photoshop earlier than Photoshop CS6

I'm now on my third try trying to download 4.1. There were errors in the first 2 attempts, hopefully it's just the traffic they're experiencing.

I noticed it was camera raw 7.1. I checked the updates for CS6 and 7.1 is a available as well if anyone interested. I think it was an RC before.

So if I have Photoshop CS5 installed I am out of luck? :(

Downloading the Lightroom update now.

Oh I meant it was not producing hefty .tiff files, instead it sent the .CR2 file straight to CS5 if you Edit In>CS5 etc...not that there is an ACR7.1 for CS5 itself...hope that clarifies what I mean

I am very interested to get more info from all of you if the speed issues are gone...

I had to revert back to 3.6 from 4.0 due to the poor performance in different parts of 4.0, especially the develop module. Is the performance now up to par with 3.6? Since my computer is "not that new" - I am saving for a new one - I am especially interested in feedback from those of you with older machines... :)

As far as ACR7.1 - yes. The latest for CS5 is 6.7.

I won't find out until tonight or tomorrow. I have a possible shoot tonight, but a definite shoot tomorrow, but won't be processing until later tomorrow night. I did the upgrade, so we'll see what happens. Hoping others can give their "speed" review in the meantime...

I have only processed a couple of images to see the changes if any.
I have a fairly new/powerful PC which I had built specifically for CS5 and LR.
I was sorely disappointed with the results in LR4. I actually thought it was my computer and had it checked twice.
I made the update to 4.1 and can definitely see quicker times in rendering, downloading and general movement between library/develop modules.
It is fast enough for my means at this time.

just a few of my thoughts...

On the download page it says it's still a beta. I guess that's one step above a release candidate. (Correction: that was apparently some leftover text that doesn't apply to the current release. It has been removed from the page I saw it on.) Anyway it's downloading now, albeit rather slowly on my bad DSL here on the island. It's taken about a half hour to get to 33% of 729.9mb total.

My computer is 'old' too and a quick play with LR4.1 this morning showed a vast improvement, it was only a quick play tho
