Hey guys
I'm looking to get a portfolio together to join sportsshooter.com, & was wondering if i could get some help on picking which photos.
Below are 10 images of mine, i'd love to get feedback on which ones you don't or do like & a reason if possible.
The captioning i've pretty much copied off of getty's style.
Any help and feedback would be great.

Do you have photos of any other sports to mix it up?

I left sportsshooter a long time ago, but in the day all shots of one sport would be a no-go right off the bat. You are supposed to show you can shoot sports.. not sport. The shots you have are nice enough, you just need to show you have depth... at least that is what a portfolio is supposed to be. But that said, these shots each are better then many of the shooters have in their web portfolios.

My personal pet peeve... a couple of the first few shots look to be over sharpened. but that look seems to be all the rage now days with new photographers, so who knows. I do like the shots... just more variety for a portfolio in my opinion.

I agree with the last two post, more different sports. As for these, you do not have one shot where you captured an athlete head to toe. Number 7 is a prime example. Lot's of dead space to the right yet a tight shot of the player. Also I would not say that shot shows peak action. Same with number 4, lots of dead space right and on top but legs are cut off. If you are going to shot tight, crop the dead space. I you want to show a sense of place, show the entire athlete in his/her space and the action as well.

Action is good for the most part, good exposure, I agree with Crossdail on the sharpening, but I am guilty of that at times as well....

1) Good. Shows strong emotions and caption is good.
2) I would leave this one out, since you only caught the arm of the defender and it's form the side.
3) I would leave this one out as well.
4) Too much dead space and the background isn't as good. I would either crop it down to a half body shot or leave it out.
5) If you had the bottom defender in and all of the guy's legs the this would be a keeper. As it is I'd throw it out.
6) Good defender shot. Looks like he's about to smack the guy. :)
7) Too much dead space and missing the legs. If you had a vertical full body crop of this the shot would have had the perfect background.
8) Eh.. Not bad, but the guy in orange and blue looks too much like he is laughing.
9 & 10) Throw these out.

So out of the 10 you posted, keep 1,6 and possibly 8.

Like the others said, they want a good mix of different sports. If you have others that are as decent as the ones above you should be good to go.

Do you have anyone sponsoring you?

way to many over sharpened and way over cropped images. No variety at all. Show some images other then the extreme cropped ones to at least show you have some photojournalistic skill in this arena. Do you have any other sports as a gallery of the same sport dosnt really cut it to be considered.

Here is my take on the photos for the portfolio. Short and not so sweet critique.

1. Replace. Out of focus arm in fore ground.
2. Replace. Composition. Dead space.
3. Replace. Back light and shadows a problem.
4. Replace. Composition, dead space.
5. The only keeper of the bunch.
6. Replace. Out of focus player in fore ground.
7. Replace. Composition, dead space.
8. Replace. Composition.
9. Replace. Background and exposure.
10.Replace. Composition. Dead Space.
